Dense, pyramidal crown. Forms a tight wind barrier as a screen or hedging; plant on 8-10 foot centers for this purpose. Provides food, shelter and habitat for a wide variety of mammals and birds. It is a favorite of browsing deer which can cause damage. Foliage may turn brownish in winter, especially on exposed sites open to the wind.  Potential for ash replacement if site conditions match and have predation control.
