Tolerant to spring flooding, and dry summers, but sensitive to soil compaction, salt and air pollution. Light: Full sun to part shade - minimum of 4 hours of direct sunlight per day. Growth Rate: Moderate growth rate with a long life span. Additional Information: Shiny dark green leaves turn yellow to purple in fall. Sweet acorns provide great food for deer, wild turkeys, black bears and other wildlife. Excellent hardwood for wet soils, great for rehabilitating degraded sites. Works also for shelterbelts.
