Self-Centering Side Clamping Sharpening Honing Guide Jig for Chisels and Blades 388015
Many woodworkers prefer sharpening their tools freehand, but using a guide can often deliver more precise and consistent results, especially for straight-edge tools. This side-clamping honing guide is an excellent choice, offering both effectiveness and affordability. Designed after the now-discontinued Eclipse honing guide from the 20th century, it remains a favorite for creating consistent bevels on chisels and plane blades. The guide features two jaws that securely clamp the blade or chisel from both sides using a simple screw mechanism. It accommodates blades as narrow as 1/16" and as wide as 3-1/8". For beveled-edge chisels up to 1-7/8" wide, the lower jaws have specially designed notches, while the upper platform supports larger plane blades up to 3-1/4". One jaw edge is straight for stability, while the other is slightly curved, centering the tool and pressing it firmly against the straight jaw for an even hold. To set your sharpening angle, extend the tool beyond the jig body.
