Each year, there are many different types of competition in Japan. A lot of tea masters in Kyushu carefully handpick the finest quality tea leaves from each grown to participate in the competition, but not every year is best for every tea region. Different year, has different weather conditions, therefore different harvest quality. As much as we love single-cultivar sencha, sometimes it all depends on the crop situation. Some places like to blend different cultivars to achieve consistency and higher yield, those are normally put under lower quality blends.  But this particular blend is different. Our tea master selected the best cultivars from the harvest in different regions to craft a unique flavor that a single cultivar tea could never replicate. This takes a lot of experience and constant testing.
