The Caganer

There in the Manger amongst the sweet baby Jesus, Holy Virgin, bewildered father, and various barn animals, Catalan people famously include a shitting man known simply as the Caganer. Your guess is as good as theirs as to why; Catalans are as unclear on their reasons as the rest of us. Historically,  the Caganer is depicted in typical Catalan cap, or barretina, and with his breeches pulled down, exposing his bare bum.
