Replacing the Fender Plus Series that preceded it, the American Deluxe Series rolled out in 1995. Just like the Plus Series, American Deluxe models were packed with the era's most advanced features and designs. They were the highest level of production short of the Custom Shop. The American Deluxe Jazz Bass starts with a radical redesign of the classic J-Bass body shape. It looks similar to what you're used to, but its smaller and sleeker. This not only makes it more balanced on a strap, but it also feels just right on your lap. On top of that, you get a full 22-fret neck with easy access all the way into the upper register. For electronics, the American Deluxe Jazz Bass had an active setup with two pickups designed by John Suhr. The pickups have larger magnets than the traditional J design, and they produce blooming, expressive tone.
