In the early development of the electric guitar, the Gibson Les Paul model was absolutely revolutionary. It is easily one of the most recognizable electric guitar designs. Particularly influential was the late-'50s Les Paul with its Flame Maple top and iconic Heritage Cherry Sunburst. When the late-'50s design was revived in 1968, Gibson followed it up with the Les Paul Standard Bass in 1968.
