Founded in 1978 by Geoff Gould, Modulus earned a well-deserved reputation for innovative designs. In particular, Modulus was at the forefront of utilizing carbon fiber in the construction of fine instruments. Most Modulus basses feature carbon fiber necks, which are much more stable and stronger than traditional wood necks. Generally lighterweight than wood, carbon fiber necks are more resistant to temperature and humidity changes, which translates to more consistent tone and better playability over time. This Modulus Vintage Jazz (VJ) was made in 2005. It features a 4-string carbon fiber neck and offset Alder body with a stunning Quilted Maple top. The previous owner wanted it to function like a traditional jazz bass, so he replaced the original active electronics with a fully passive setup that requires no battery. This VJ4 is outfitted with two Bartolini J pickups, and then it has a master volume control, a pickup blend control, and individual tone controls for each pickup.  Althoug
