This specimen is just barely encrusing a frag plug that is 1.25" wide. There is little virtical height to it. Please note the exterior of these corals are brown with occasional white polyps appearing.  The blue coloration is only seen when the coral is injured or dead.  Heliopora coerulea commonly known as Blue Ridge coral is a great aquarium coral for anyone with a healthy reef tank. While it has a very hard skeleton it is actually an octocoral. Most animals which are considered octocorals are considered "soft" corals. Please note the exterior of this skeleton is usually brown. This species is also unique because of its blue colored skeleton and its ability to "shed" similar to Toadstool leather corals (Sarcophyton sp.). The unique colony shape, ever changing texture (when polyps are extended or retracted or if the animal is shedding), and its unique story make this an odd ball aquarium animal. Like all the corals currently listed from TerraReef, this specimen is an aquacultured coral.
