Pastiliere is a rare and striking fig variety prized for its bold flavor, vivid coloration, and strong vigor. The fruit is small to medium with dark purple-black skin that contrasts sharply with its deep crimson pulp. The flavor is rich and complex—intensely sweet with berry notes and a touch of acidity that gives it depth and balance. When fully ripe, it’s syrupy, punchy, and unforgettable. Though less common than other varieties, Pastiliere is a standout among collectors for both its appearance and performance. It has a naturally upright, vigorous growth habit and responds well to pruning. While its main crop is the showstopper, Pastiliere does require a pollinator to set fruit—making it an excellent candidate for gardens that also host fig wasps or caprifigs. Latin Name: Ficus caricaSite and Soil: Prefers full sun and well-drained soil.Pollination Requirements: Not self-fertile; requires caprification (pollination by fig wasps) for fruit development.Hardiness: Hardy to about 5–10°F
