The battle occurred on the outskirts of Mexico City in September of 1847, and was fought between Mexican forces led by General Antonio León and American forces led by Major General Winfield Scott. Though the conflict resulted in an American victory, the Mexicans were nevertheless able to hold out long enough to prevent the capture of the city a week later.
