This illustrated work is the culmination of Desgodetz’s field work in Rome, where he was commissioned by the French kings’ minister of finance to study Roman ruins and produce a mathematically accurate sourcebook for use by French practitioners. Desgodetz was so thorough in his findings that they are considered accurate enough to be reliable documentation to this day.
