The Emerald Ascension

In “The Emerald Ascension”, I captured a unique moment with Caterpie, a small Pokémon often overlooked in its vast world. I was inspired to portray its journey up the tallest tree in Viridian Forest, eager to experience the sun’s final embrace for the day. Viridian Forest, teeming with life and activity, seemed to pause, allowing Caterpie its moment in the sun.When I think of Caterpie, I’m reminded of its special defense mechanism: the ability to release an odor to deter foes. Yet, in this painting, I wanted to move away from battle and survival, focusing instead on Caterpie’s ambition. My intention was to showcase its determination and the beauty of life’s simple pleasures.Choosing the colors for this piece was a delightful experience. I gravitated towards warm oranges and yellows for the sky, setting the stage for Caterpie’s ascent. To ground the piece, I integrated touches of mossy greens and pale pinks, crafting a lively forest that both supports and celebrates Caterpie’s climb.
