Generation 1.5

*QM EXCLUSIVE Generation 1.5 Attempting to decode the enigma of “home” in an increasingly globalized world, especially as artists remain shackled to this question of where they’re “from,” the Queens Museum organized Generation 1.5 to highlight the works of artists who often feel torn between two homes. In this exhibit, the very notion of homeland was deconstructed: the exhibition title was inherited from the Korean-American phrase describing people who move between countries during adolescence. Generation 1.5 explored the evocative works of eight artists who made this transition. Artists explored their own ideas about “home” through interviews and essays, addressing the myriad issues involved in migration, including cultural representation, cosmopolitanism, personal expression, alienation and social isolation, the pain and promise of transition, immigration, exile, and the complexity and vulnerability of identity politics.  Artists: Ellen Harvey; Pablo Helguera; Emily Jacir; Lee Mingw
