Fortín is a small community within the Caranavi district of Bolivia, shaped by smallholder producers who cultivate primarily Pacamara beneath a canopy of native shade trees. Coffee took root here in the 1960s, following national agrarian reform, and expanded rapidly through the 1990s. What began as a drive for volume gradually shifted in the early 2000s, when international development efforts introduced technical training and modern infrastructure positioning quality coffee as a sustainable alternative to coca cultivation.
