King Ferdinand Agave
The King Ferdinand agave, Agave ferdinandi-regis, is now called Agave nickelsiae. Agave nickelsiae is closely related to the Queen Victoria agave. Agave nickelsiae has a more open growth habit compared to the Queen victoria agave and grows very slowly to 18" tall and 18" wide. Agave nickelsiae is native to Mexico. Agave nickelsiae is tolerant of extreme sun and extreme heat. This agave is also quite cold tolerant, taking down to 10 degrees faranheit for short periods of time. All cacti and succulents, regardless of cold tolerance, must be kept relatively dry outdoors in the Winter time. Consistently cold and wet soil can induce rot. Agave nickelsiae is an ideal easy care potted plant. In suitable environments these agaves can be planted outdoors in a landscape setting. Our recommendation for landscape use is to group them together. As they grow, a group of these agaves will stop traffic. Agave nickelsiae is true living sculpture that requires a bare minimum of care. The
