The prior events at this location was in 1966 and 1967 and it was a great Dutch success when Donner won ahead of world champion Petrosian in 1967. Sixteen contested for first prize which was easily won by Vlastimil Hort from Czechoslovakia with a score of 11 1/2 of 15. Two points behind was a tie for second through seventh with Pal Benko, Levente Lengyel, Karl Robatsch, Anthony Saidy, Mark Taimanov and Stefano Tatai. Sole eight was Milan Matulović just a half point behind. Ninth was Borislav Ivko
