First edition.The third international chess tournament of Venice was played at the beautiful Casino Municipale Tournament hall in 1969. The prior events at this location was in 1966 and 1967 and it was a great Dutch success when Donner won ahead of world champion Petrosian in 1967. Sixteen contested for first prize which was easily won by Vlastimil Hort from Czechoslovakia with a score of 11 1/2 of 15. Two points behind was a tie for second through seventh with Pal Benko, Levente Lengyel, Karl Robatsch, Anthony Saidy, Mark Taimanov and Stefano Tatai. Sole eight was Milan Matulović just a half point behind. Ninth was Borislav Ivko
