Carlos Santana was born in 1947 in Jalisco, Mexico. He learned to play the violin at the age of 5 and guitar by the age of 8, under the influence of his father who was a mariachi musician. He eventually started creating his own sound and started a band. Carlos Santana's band was originally called Santana Blues Band until he was signed by Columbia Records in 1969, where they shortened it to just 'Santana.' He credits Jimi Hendrix as one of his biggest influences in rock!
