Galaxy Female Betta Background Information The Galaxy Female Betta (Bettas splendens) is a territorial fish species of the Gourami family and one of the 73 species of the genus Betta. They are native to the ditches, shallow pools, and slow-moving streams of the Mekong basin located in Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, and Vietnam. The Galaxy Female Betta will grow to a maximum length of 2.2 inches, a bit shorter than their male counterparts. They require a tank of 5 gallons, or at least 20 gallons for a community tank of up to six specimens, maintained at an acceptable temperature of 24-26°C and a pH of 6.8-7.5. Bettas are pretty intelligent and curious and require stimulation; otherwise, they get bored and depressed, leading to a weaker immune system. Plants, rocks, caves, and driftwood should be added to the tank to provide crucial enrichment. All Betta fish are territorial, and that includes the Galaxy Female Betta. However, male Bettas are more aggressive than females. Galaxy Female
