Geophagus Altifrons The Geophagus Altifrons is a freshwater fish native to South America. These fish are often found in the Amazon and Paraguay River basins, and occasionally they can be located as far north as Buenos Aires in Argentina or São Paulo in Brazil. Geophagus Altifrons are commonly found in water with a pH level of between four and eight but can tolerate levels as high as nine. What does the Geophagus Altifrons look like? The Geophagus Altifron looks like Geophagus Paraneetropus, but Geophagus Altifrons are half the size and have a pointed head. Geophagus Altifron males grow up to three inches long while females only grow two inches in length on average. Geophagus Altifrons have five rows of large scales that run along their dorsal side, with a median dorsal fin located between the third and fourth rows.
