Neon Tetra Neon Tetra (Paracheirodon Innesi) are freshwater fish of the family Characidae. They naturally reside in the blackwater and clear water streams in the Amazon basin of South America. Due to their vibrant colors and ease of care, Neon Tetras have grown to become one of the most popular fish among fish keepers.  They grow to an approximate length of 1.5 inches (4cm), and hence require a tank size of 20 gallons if you’re keeping 15 Neon Tetras which is the number recommended per tank. Replicating the Neon Tetras’ natural environment into the aquarium is very crucial to their well-being. The aquarium should be heavily planted to help create hiding places for them. Water temperatures of between 70°F to 81°F should be used in the tank with pH levels below 7.0 and above 6.0.
