Barite (British spelling Baryte), also called heavy spar, is a mineral that is widely distributed around the globe. Chemically, it consists of crystals of barium sulfate (BaSO4). Barite, or Baryte, is a barium sulfate mineral that crystallizes in the form of masses, tabular crystals, and even rarely, stalactites. This mineral was first recorded in 1800 by D.L.G. Karsten. Historically, Barite has been used for a multitude of different purposes over the course of centuries. In the 1800’s, Barite was used for the production of Barium Hydroxide, which was a common chemical used in sugar refining. Today, Barium is used in the manufacturing of LED glass for TV and computer screens. Barite is said to produce an incentive to go for one's dreams without restraint.
