J-Zone - Big Ol' Breakbeats

  NYC drummer J-Zone follows up five prior breakbeat collections and a one shot library with Big Ole Breakbeats, a balanced combo of unorthodox funk breaks, renditions of classics and serviceable grooves played in Zone’s trademark style. Varied miking techniques meet occasional percussion experimentation - e.g., the melodic use of a kalimba - for something a bit less conservative than a standard break pack. Big Ole Breakbeats is the result of not only experimentation, but experience. J-Zone’s profile as a session drummer has steadily risen over the years. He’s recently done sessions for Binky Griptite (Daptone), Easy Eye Sound (Dan Auerbach) and Adrian Quesada (The Black Pumas). Stretching beyond hip-hop, Zone’s appearance on Latin, soul and rock recordings diversify a list that already included heavyweights like Lord Finesse, Danger Mouse, DJ Nu-Mark, Showbiz and Pharoahe Monch.
