SHIPS NEXT DAY.  In 1976 Niki Lauda endured one of the worst crashes in formula one. Racing around the Nürburgring at speeds exceeding 150 mph, Lauda’s Ferrari 312T2 flew off the track, slamming into the barriers before bursting into a raging fire that reached temperatures over 1,400°F.  Trapped inside for almost a full minute, Lauda was burned so severely that his face, hands ,and lungs were charred, as he inhaled nothing but toxic fumes. Against all odds, just six weeks later, Lauda returned to the cockpit, determined to continue the battle for World Championship. The pain, the disfigurement, the fear—none of it stopped him.
