The Poky Little Puppy, was written by Janette Sebring Lowrey and illustrated by Gustaf Tenggren. It was first published in 1942 as one of the first twelve books in the Little Golden Books series.      The story is about five little puppies who dug a hole under the fence so they can get out into the world and explore. When four of the puppies return home they were scolded by their mother for digging holes under the fence and sent to bed. The poky little puppy returned home late after everyone was asleep, avoids the scolding and discovers rice pudding that was what their mother had planned to share with all the puppies before she discovered the fence incident. After enjoying the rice pudding, the poky little puppy climbs into bed very happy.    The next day, again the puppies dug hole a hole under the fence, and again they set out to discover the world.
