This 8-hour self-paced virtual course is intended to fulfill the theoretical component for the selection, insertion, and maintenance of adult Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters (PICCs).   Objectives: Upon completion of this course the participant will be able to: Define infusion therapy and basic characteristics of intravenous fluids Identify relevant peripheral and central venous anatomy and describe basic vessel structure and blood components Define the categories and unique characteristics of vascular access devices Determine the criteria for vascular access device selection indications/contraindications of each device Illustrate the Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter insertion procedure Point out possible intra-procedural complications and strategies to mitigate them Discuss PICC care and maintenance Describe post-procedural and post-procedural complications Identify and explain the Standards of Practice Discuss proper PICC documentation and policy 8 CEs
