Pair of Russian ornithological plates by Kornilov Porcelain Factory (1905)
Pair of Russian porcelain dinner plates with native Russian ornithological specimens. The center of the plates are painted with a stylized kingfisher in a landscape and a wild goose in a seascape after designs by Ivan Galnbek (1855-1934). The rims are decorated with Pan-Slavic style geometric border motifs, and both are marked under base with a printed factory mark, also numbered and inscribed in English. Marked on the bottom in the underglaze: Made in Russia by Kornilov BrosOne plate is marked "Wild Goose 288" and the other is marked "King Fisher 288" Saint Petersburg, Russia, 1905.
