Chinese Canton covered porcelain entree dish (c. 1820-40)
A square Canton porcelain covered entree dish with dimpled corners. The decoration is in cobalt underglaze blue with a willow tea house pattern. The dish has a flaring rim with an inset for the domed cover with finial. The tea house decoration is bordered with a cobalt band and scalloped cloud with a mounded center and topped with an acorn finial. The interior repeats the cobalt band and scalloped cloud border. Centered on the flat base of the dish is a dimpled cornered cobalt banding framing another willow teahouse view. The exterior is decorated on all four sides with a trophy of fruit. China, made for the Western trade, circa 1840. Condition: Pitting, areas of discoloration, and irregularities commensurate with ceramic firing technique, age, and use. Good overall condition.
