Tassel Fern
Tassel Fern (Polystichum polyblepharum) is an elegant, low-maintenance evergreen perennial known for its glossy, dark green, lace-like fronds that unfurl with a unique, backward-flipping "tassel" tip. Thriving in USDA zones 5-8, it grows 1.5 to 2 feet tall in vase-shaped clumps. It requires partial to full shade and consistently moist, well-drained soil. Growing Conditions & Care Light: Prefers partial to full shade, especially protected from harsh, direct afternoon sun which can scorch fronds. Soil: Thrives in rich, organic, humus-rich, and well-drained soils.Watering: Requires consistent moisture; water deeply 1-2 times per week to maintain soil moisture, particularly during dry spells. Maintenance: Low-maintenance. Apply a layer of mulch to maintain moisture and protect the crown in winter. It is generally deer and rabbit-resistant.
