Scientific Name: Aphyocharax anisitsi Common Name: Bloodfin Tetra, True Bloodfin, Glass Bloodfin, Red Finned Tetra Adult Size: 2 inches Life Expectancy: 5 - 8 years Habitat: South America river basins Aquarium Size: 20 gallons (keep in small schools) Ideal Water Conditions: Temperature Range: 70 - 80°F pH Range: 6 - 8 Hardness Range: 3 - 30 Temperament: Semi-aggressive Diet & Nutrition: Good flake food as their primary diet but vary it with bloodworms, brine shrimp and other dried or frozen fish treats occasionally. Breeding & Spawning: Egg layers, female will place the eggs on wide leaved aquarium plants. Adults need to be removed after this. After a few days the eggs should hatch and they fry will feed off their yolk sacs for a few days but then you'll need to give them liquid fry food. Gender: Can be hard to determine, females may be more full bodied and have less red on the fins. Males are usually stream lined with more red on the fins.
