In the broad framework of India’s approach to its Asian neighbours, this study explores India’s extended neighbourhood for the prospects of energy cooperation. The study focuses on four countries-Bangladesh, Myanmar, Vietnam and Iran-about which there exists a considerable information gap in the public domain. While Bangladesh’s decision to supply its surplus gas is trapped in its internal politics, other neighbours of India, particularly Iran and Myanmar, offer encouraging prospects for energy cooperation.India’s bilateral relations with these countries are cordial and cooperative and its has adopted innovative strategies to harness their energy potential. The study suggests that there is scope for India to encourage its private sector also, to strengthen its search for energy security. T
