WW2 345th Bomber Group 'Air Apaches' The 345th Bomb Group was formed in November 1942, and had four squadrons; the 498th, 499th, 500th and 501st. The Group was nicknamed, the "Air Apaches." They were the first full Air Force combat group sent to the Pacific Theater and flew the B-25 Mitchell bomber. The Group was awarded four Distinguished Unit Citations and was one of the most decorated units of WW2. The 345th was deactivated in December 1945.
