Notes from the Archive: George Sowden was a founding member of the Memphis group, and his work was prominently featured in each of the four subsequent collections. His early notable designs include the D'Antibes Cabinet, Oberoi Armchair, Palace Chairs, Metropole Clock, as well as patterns for laminates and textiles. In this Interior we see his patterns used for wallpaper, carpets and flooring, along with his Oberoi armchair and Palace chairs. It is easy to imagine that the Memphis designers simply concocted radical designs without a thought as to how we would live with them.  I
