Notes from the Archive: George Sowden was a founding member of the Memphis group and his work was included in each of the four collections. His early notable designs include the D'Antibes Cabinet, Oberoi Armchair, Palace Chairs, Metropole Clock, as well as patterns for laminates and textiles. In this Interior we see his patterns used for wallpaper, carpets and flooring, along with his Luxor cabinet and bed designed for Memphis. A peek through the doorway shows the Palace chairs and D'Antibes cabinet in the adjoining dining room. It is easy to imagine that the Memphis designers simpl
