It spans the Walloomsac River, a tributary of the Hoosic, which in turn flows from the Hudson. In Sleigh’s painting, the bridge is nearly perpendicular to the picture plane. From this perspective, she emphasized the length of the structure, as well as the contrast between the geometric bridge and the surrounding organic forms.
