Scipione Borghese (1 September 1577 – 2 October 1633) was an Italian Cardinal, art collector and patron of the arts. A member of the Borghese family, he was the patron of the painter Caravaggio and the artist Bernini. His legacy is the establishment of the art collection at the Villa Borghese in Rome, which serves as a monument to Roman interior decoration at its most extravagant and the finest collections of Baroque sculpture anywhere in the world. The inspiration for the granite barrel of the Montblanc Patron of Art Borghese 4810 Limited Edition is the multi-coloured marble floor in the Galleria Borghese. The ornaments and pattern of embossing on the cap and around the cone of this edition dons antique motifs seen on the Borghese Vase. The design of the clip is inspired by the park at Villa Borghese. The artistically crafted clip, crowned by a smoky quartz, brings to mind the branches of the colossal old trees of this extraordinary park. The shape of the cap top, crowned with the Montblanc emblem of black and white precious resin, is reminiscent of a cardinal’s hat, while the cone top, made of carnelian on the Montblanc Patron of Art Borghese 4810 Limited Edition, is adorned with a portrait of Borghese. The 18kt gold nib is enriched with an engraving of the Borghese family coat of arms.
