The Power of Movement in Plants, Charles Darwin First edition, first issue of Darwin's penultimate book, the culmination of a long line of study in plants. Assisted by his son Francis in conducting the necessary experiments and preparing the manuscript, Darwin investigates the adaptive movement of plants, extending his evolutionary theories to the plant kingdom. The first issue is identified by the presence of two lines of errata on page x, which was corrected in the second issue later in the year. (Freeman 1325) London: John Murray, 1880. Publisher's original green cloth, spine lettered in gilt; pp. x, 592 + 32 ads (dated May 1878). A very good copy. Binding remains tight, sturdy and square. Front hinge neatly reinforced with archival adhesive, rear hinge just barely starting but secure. Mild wear and rubbing to boards with an area of rubbing to the spine, spine crown a bit worn. Internally quite clean with no markings, small contemporary bookshop label to rear pastedown. A very pre
