For decades, the monks of Caldey Abbey sold their famed Island Lavender to travelers, rarely exporting it off the island, and then only at considerable expense. The stuff of summer winds and cool evenings, of crickets and peepers and bluish gloom on sheer cliffs at sunset, it has been described by many a perfume critic and fragrance lover as the greatest lavender fragrance ever made. Some years ago, Barrister and Mann, fearing that the rarity of this masterpiece would doom it to anonymity, acquired several bottles in order to archive and preserve it and to present it for audiences beyond the shores of Caldey Island.
