This poster, commissioned by Air France to promote travel to Europe shows a flower in the center of the image featuring a different European nationality in each petal. In the bud of the whimsical flower, an artist can be seen painting the Eiffel Tower, encircled by a German woman holding a stein, a Spanish man dressed in the regalia of bullfighting and many other wonderful representations of the European countries. Air France was formed on 7 October 1933, from a merger of Air Orient, Air Union, Compagnie Générale Aéropostale, Compagnie Internationale de Navigation Aérienne (CIDNA) and Société Générale des Transports Aériens (SGTA). Among these airlines, SGTA was the first commercial airline company in France, having been founded as Lignes Aériennes Farman in 1919.
