Casino De Paris has a long history as an entertainment venue in Paris dating back to the 18th century. In the early 20th century the music hall adopted their famous revue format which has featured stars such as Josephine Baker, Mistinguett, Maurice Chevalie and even Carla Bruni. The theatre is also well known for many of its original advertising posters by artists, Jules Cheret and Erte. This long and narrow format was primarily used for placement on the poles outside of metro stations in Paris. Jules Chéret (1836-1932) was known as the "Father of the Modern Poster." He was a French painter and lithographer who traveled to England as an apprentice, and introduced the latest lithography techniques to French culture. Paired with his creativity and artistic flair, Chéret began creating advertisements for cabarets, music halls, and theaters.
