Known as "The Fighting Marine", Tunney served in WWI and boxed his way through Europe. In the Inter War years, Tunney became a household name for his undefeated title and most famous fight against Dempsey. He was notorious for his love of literature, and married into the Carnegie family which led to a secondary career in business. In WWII, the Navy asked Tunney to lead its physical fitness program for pilots. He retired from the military with the esteemed title of Commander.
