This poster for the French aperitif Kina Lillet comes from a sport series created by Andre Galland (1886-1965) for the company between 1925 and 1935. Kina Lillet is an aperitif wine made from a blend of Bordeaux wines and citrus liqueur, invented in 1887 by brothers Pierre and Raymond Lillet. It was white, which made it different than the other aperitifs that were red. It was also the first aperitif to come from a specific geographic location, Bordeaux. The poster depicts two teams playing soccer. The space left blank at the bottom was intended to announce the different matches. Galland created a series of posters representing various sports for Kina Lillet. Andre Galland was a French artist that started his career illustrating children's books and magazines. He also worked designing posters for private clients and humoristic political comic strips. After the war, he covered the Nuremberg trial drawing sketches of the audience.
