
L'Hiver a Monte Carlo
Does a place as chic as Monte Carlo ever really have an "off-season"? Clearly not, as shown in this fabulous poster advertising the area in the wintertime. The elegantly dressed couple ooze glamour and wealth, as the stars and lights of the city create a glimmering reflection in the sea behind them. It is a perfect companion to Domergue's posters for the region in the summertime. This is the scarce larger sized format of this poster. Jean-Gabriel Domergue (1889 - 1962) created this poster in 1937. The French painter often described as the "inventor of the pin up" was known for his long-necked and delicate rendering of women. Domergue lived and worked in Monte Carlo which is in the Cote d’Azur. He rubbed elbows with high society, organized formal balls, designed fashion accessories and was somewhat of a local celebrity.
