La Triomphante

Gliding down the billiards table, smooth as felt! That's the message in this charming poster for Triomphante bicycle tires. This image was created at a time when bicycles were waning in influence, alongside the rise in automobiles in popularity. During this period, marketing shifted towards presenting cycling as a sport and pasttime and less of a mode of transportation. The tying together of the bicycle with the imagery of billiards was very much intentional in this design. Raoul Vion was a member of the French artist collective, Societé des Humoristés. He primarily created illustrations for magazines, and this is one of a handful of posters he created in his career. This is an Original Vintage Poster; it is not a reproduction.
