SNCF-Pays Basque is a 1964 English language travel advertisement by Auguste Durel (1904-1993) for the French Railway. The French Railway is commonly known as SNCF, Societe Nationale de Chemin de Fer. Throughout the years, they have commissioned prominent artists to depict well known destinations in France to encourage train travel by the French public and visitors. The Basque Coast is located at the southern border of France shared by Spain. This poster depicts the peaceful town of Mauleon with its unique orange roofed buildings. The town is beautifully set among the Pyrenees mountain range. Auguste Durel was an accomplished fine arts painter that specialized in landscapes of the various regions of France.
