SMD 8X8 LED Matrix

This Electronics STEM kit includes all the components needed to assemble an LED display unit featuring an 8 x 8 matrix of 0805 surface mount device (SMD) red chip LEDs. For a full list of components, refer to the "More Product Information" section below. The completed unit comes with a pre-programmed MCU to display characters on the LED matrix. This kit is designed for advanced to expert-level electronics enthusiasts. It requires soldering very small (1–2 mm) SMDs placed in close proximity. If you're new to electronics, this kit is not for you... instead, we recommend starting with a beginner-friendly kit featuring through-hole components or larger SMDs to build your skills first (such as the Electromagnetic cannon, Photosensitive robot, or Ultrasonic levitation kits). This project offers an excellent opportunity for aspiring electronics engineers to practice and perfect their SMD soldering techniques. Successfully completing the kit will enhance your skills, preparing you for intricate tasks such as repairing mobile devices—like replacing charging ports or damaged SMD components—common in modern electronics repair. Note: the components in this kit are TINY. You'll need a good magnifying glass or a phone or digital camera that can zoom in (i.e.: macro mode) sufficiently to see the component details.
