Martian Meteorite Pendant

At its closest, Mars is about 40 million miles away from Earth, but sometimes a little piece of the red planet comes far nearer. Martian meteorites form when a large impactor strikes the surface, ejecting material that becomes a new meteorite in turn. From these space rocks, we can learn much about our neighbor in the solar system. This Martian Meteorite Pendant is an acrylic disk that contains Martian surface material. It comes from the shergottite meteorite Amgala 001 which was discovered in 2022.
