The Suikaen Tanimura Yasuburo Shiratake Emi Chasen is a traditional matcha whisk from Suikaen workshop in Takayama, Nara. The workshop is led by Yasaburo Tanimura, a 25th generation chasen craftsman continuing a 500-year family tradition. This distinctive whisk features dark green yarn wrapping and a soft charm with an intricate knot pattern. Made from shiratake (white bamboo) using traditional methods without machines or chemicals. The bamboo used is henon bamboo (hachiku), chosen for its dense, fine surface quality that makes it ideal for chasen crafting. The bamboo is harvested in winter after 2-3 years of growth, boiled to remove oils, dried in cold winter air, then aged for another 2-3 years to achieve its white color. Each whisk is entirely handcrafted in Takayama village, which produces about 90% of Japan's tea whisks. This chasen features curly tips when new. After blooming in hot water, the prongs uncurl and become ready for use. This style works for both thin usucha and thick
