This handcrafted matcha bowl from Kiyohide Yokoi's workshop features the Joseon Karatsu style, a traditional technique introduced by Korean potters in the late 16th century. Two distinct glazes meet and flow together during firing, creating a beautiful boundary between the pale, creamy upper glaze and rich amber-brown lower glaze. Made in Toki, Gifu Prefecture, each piece is individually glazed, resulting in unique variations in color, pattern, and where the two glazes meet. Yokoi has been making pottery for over 40 years in the Mino region and holds the qualification of Dentō Kōgeishi (Traditional Craftsman), a prestigious certification awarded by the Japanese government to master artisans who demonstrate exceptional skill and dedication to preserving traditional techniques.
