Original sixth-plate daguerreotype, in a full case that is 3.75" x 3.25" when closed. This came out of a Georgia estate along with other photos with GA studio imprints. There is a well-known image of the Cherokee polymath Sequoyah wearing a similar headdress. The capitol of the Cherokee Nation was just north of Kennesaw Mountain, GA, until the Indian Removal Act of 1830. Based on that info, my best guess is that this is a painting of a Cherokee woman, painted sometime in the 1830s, but since there is no ID that is only a best guess. Case has no repairs, seals are gone. Plate has some tarnish and a few small mat abrasions, but no serious damage is noted. Boxed shipping.
